Another day, another lawsuit. A company called Wi-LAN has initiated litigation against 22 technology companies—including Apple—in two actions claiming patent infringement, reports Reuters.
Wi-LAN, which licenses patents for telecom products, said the suits against chip suppliers, equipment vendors and electronics retailers have commenced in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division. The filings claim that the companies infringe Wi-LAN patents—related to Wi-Fi and power consumption in DSL products—by making or selling such products as wireless routers, modems and personal notebook computers.
Reuters reports that Wi-LAN in July said it struck a preliminary deal with Fujitsuto license its entire portfolio. Financial terms weren’t released.

Why do so manu of these things originate out of Texas?
Is Texas the Nigeria of the U.S.? (Yeah...I know it’s a bad analogy. It’s the first thing that came to mind.)

NIgeria-Texas....let´s see...oil rich, in the armpit of their respective geographical areas, full of con artists and cows, inhabited by tribes speaking divergent languages, formerly colonies, dynastic in political system, ...maybe the comparison was not too far off! But the real problem, is that there are companies that exist solely to use purchased patents to thngs that NEVER should be allowed patent, like DNA and naturally-occurring hormones etc. Then using a legal system, designed to maximize attorney income, rather than secure common-sense morality and determine Truth. Rather than truly create somethng, they are like a virus or a rat between the walls, living off others like parasites.
Now where can I buy the patent on electricity....if I get 1/2 cent from each kW all over the world, I will have enough seed capital to patent water, then ......
have fun out there!

That’s so ridiculous. How can they sue for using the 802.11 standard! It’s a standard - the point is that no one owns it, isn’t it?
Meh. I hope Apple and the others sue them so hard that they are put out of business. Companies like that that just exist to sue other companies are bloody ridiculous.
