Wal-Mart began selling iPhone 3Gs yesterday (Sunday), but if you don’t have 3G service in your area, your local Wal-Mart may not be handling them. I called my local Wal-Mart today and was told that they would not be handling them, because we do not have AT&T 3G service in this area.
Wal-Mart is offering the handset in roughly 2,500 stores, at prices of $197 for the 8GB model and $297 for 16GB versions. Wal-Mart is the second independent retailer and fourth overall to sell the iPhone 3G, following Best Buy, AT&T, and Apple, reports iLounge.
UPDATE: I called Wal-Mart in Milwaukee, WI and was told they have the 3G iPhones in stock. I asked if I could buy one and activate it at home. I was told that they have to be activated in the store.
