VMware has released VMware Fusion 1.1, a new update to its VMware Fusion desktop virtualization software for Intel-based Macs. The upgrade is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 (“Leopard”).

The upgrade also has performance improvements, enhanced 3D graphics with experimental support for DirectX 9.0 and improvements to VMware Fusion’s Unity feature. There’s also added support for Microsoft Vista Boot Camp partitions as virtual machines and support for French, German, and Japanese-speaking customers.

VMware Fusion allows Mac users to simultaneously run Mac OS X, Windows and other PC-based applications on the same Mac. Version 1.1 is a free update for all VMware Fusion 1.0 customers. The VMware Importer beta is also available at no cost. For new users Fusion costs US$79.99 for a single-user license.
