Virtual Apple store opens in Second Life

imageThere’s now an Apple store, complete with Genius Bar, in Second Life. You can visit the virtual Apple Store in Second Life only after you install the software and set up a character first. Second Life offers a storyline-less virtual world in which participants create avatars of themselves and explore the virtual, ever-changing world.

It provides a 3D online world with a rapidly growing population from 100 countries around the globe, in which the Rresidents themselves create and build the world which includes homes, vehicles, nightclubs, stores, landscapes, clothing, and games. The Second Life Grid is a development platform created by Linden Lab, a company founded in 1999 by Philip Rosedale, to create a new form of shared 3D experience.

“It’s unlikely the store is officially-sanctioned by Cupertino, so it’s eminently possible that Apple’s ever-active legal beagles will jump in there to get the virtual shop shut down, but it’s open for business right now,” notes Macworld UK.

Check out the offerings at Mac OS Ken and The Video Sandbox, Macsimum New’s media partners. And don’t forget: the “Macsimum Valentine’s Day Coupon Book” is now available. It’s a 2.2MB, PDF, downloadable coupon book with discounts, special offers and promotions in conjunction with Valentine’s Day. Double click it to open.
