imageUltralingua has released Ultralingua 7, an update of its flagship dictionary application for Mac OS X. Ultralingua 7 (available both for definitions and for translation in many languages) has been optimized for Mac OS X 10.5 (“Leopard”).

The update sports styled text and layout for display of complex dictionary data, while custom-designed inline inspectors allow users to conjugate words and add entries with a single click. Integrated dictionary “stemming” means that users don’t need to worry about conjugations, plurals, or other inflected forms when searching for definitions and translations: Ultralingua finds the appropriate form automatically.

For language learning, Ultralingua 7 offers a new integrated flashcards feature (using Apple’s Core Animation technology. Other language tools include a verb conjugator, a number-to-text converter, grammar references, and Internet integration for language forums and usage examples. Finally, Ultralingua integrates with the rest of Mac OS X through a Dashboard widget and a system-wide hotkey that defines and translates words in any application in a compact inline interface.

Ultralingua 7 is available for many languages, including English definitions and synonyms, as well as bilingual dictionaries for Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and more. Individual dictionaries are priced at US$34.95; users may load multiple dictionaries in a single interface. (Site licenses and volume licenses are also available.)
