University of California, Irvine Extension, the continuing education arm of UC Irvine, has announced a new course titled “Mobile Development for Apple iPhone and iTouch” for the winter quarter.
Since the inception of Apple’s App Store in 2007, the number of applications available has jumped from 500 to 100,000—an increase of nearly 10,000%, says Dr. Dave Dimans, director of UC Irvine Extension’s engineering, sciences and information technology programs. UC Irvine Extension’s five-week course will offer participants a first-hand look into this burgeoning industry and the practical skills required to develop their own applications, he adds.
Starting Jan. 12, “Mobile Development for Apple iPhone and iTouch” will provide a general introduction to mobile programming; compare strategies from Apple, Blackberry and Microsoft; and discuss XCode development. In addition, participants will develop applications in Objective C and then test and deploy them to the iPhone. The course also will explore the integration of phone-specific features such as the accelerometer, touch screen, GEO positioning, sound and Web access.
