TVPredictions prez: Apple TV sales ‘horribly low’

Apple TV sales are “horribly low,” claims Phillip Swann, president of TVPredictions.com. In fact, he predicts that Apple will pull the product off the market next year.

Swanni says that retailers tell him that consumers have little interest in watching their computer-stored videos on their televisions or, at least, they have little interest in spending $299 to do so. He says Apple has refused to release sales figures for Apple TV to date because it knows how poorly it’s performing at retail.

The Tools of Change for Publishing (TOC) Conference will explore how technology is sparking creativity and inspiring conversation for leading change in the industry. Participants include innovators from every corner of the book publishing world, who will deliver enlightening keynotes, informative sessions, and useful analysis, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities ahead. This guy, Philip Swann, is a moron. He just doesn’t get it. I have an AppleTV and it is magic. Fantastic for Podcasts, iTunes etc. and with YouTube coming, and other sources after that, it is the most compelling way to watch new media.

When I was in the Apple store to buy my AppleTV there were several other people waiting to buy as well. I think it will be one of Apples most successful products.

Just how many retailers are carrying the Apple TV?  I’m curious to know where his data comes from because I doubt it’s coming from Apple stores.

He does make a good point...people are going to ask “why would I want to send my PC files to my TV?”.  There’s a few issues likely at play here.

1. Many consumers are stuck in a modal thought process that has difficulty combining PC media with TV.  It’s all just data but they haven’t grokked this.

2. The Apple TV has been shipping for just over 2 months.  Many people have no idea the product exists.  The iPod wasn’t even a hit after 2 months.

3. Technical- The Apple TV still requires the ability to network wirelessly or via cable.  Some people are still afraid of this.

This guy doesn’t know Apple.  They rarely cancel a product abruptly. Anyone that doesn’t think iTune 8 isn’t going to rely heavily on the Apple TV as well as iPod is fooling themselves.

When has Apple ever released sales numbers for any product outside of major events like MacWorld and WWDC or at the end of the quarter?
