The not-so-official ‘Italian’ iPhone by TIM

The iPhone is officially available in US, Germany and UK. Soon it will be available in France, and we’ll se the price of the iPhone without the carrier subscription. No other countries were announced by Apple.

But in Italy the iPhone is available “officially” in some TIM stores. We have the picture of the display window of a TIM store in Milan, and they sell “the exclusive premiere” at 799 euros. No voice/data plan is given with the iPhone but the reseller says you can use any SIM and your plan.

Is 800 euros the right price for a gray market iPhone in Italy? Let’s do some math:

1) Rome FCO > New York JFK return flight tickets 410 euro taxes included + iPhone at Apple Store in Manhattan 295 euros local taxes included = 705 euros

2) Rome FCO > New York JFK return flight tickets 410 euro taxes included + New York City > Salem, NH return bus tickets 70 euros + iPhone at Apple Store in Salem 272 euros with no local taxes = 752 euros

Hey, you can go to United States by plane from Italy to buy an iPhone and pay less than the “official” price here in Italy. Can you believe it?
