Pacific Crest analyst Andy Hargreaves says that, with the announcement of myriad new iPhone carriers across the globe, “the numbers have gotten out of hand,” reports Barron’s. Hargreaves points out in a research report to clients that the carriers that have announced deals with Apple have total subscribers of 669 million people, an increase of 520 million in the last month.
“A substantial majority of these subscribers should not be considered potential iPhone purchasers,” he cautions. Hargreaves forecasts global smartphone sales at 61 million units this year, and 81.3 million next year. Of that he sees Apple taking 17.2 percent share this year, and 18.8 percent next year, Barron’s adds.
