Some details on the UK iPhone launch

The iPhone will be available outside the US on Friday Nov. 9. On that day Germany and the UK will be ready for the communications device, along with firmware 1.1.2 and iTunes 7.5.

While UK carrier O2 will finally have a real data flat rate, having deleted previous limits, the German carrier T-Mobile will have a sort of limit over 200 MB/month. On one minute past midnight between Thursday and Friday only a T-Mobile store will begin to sell the iPhone in Germany; it’s in Cologne. The others will sell iPhones at regular opening times the same morning. There are some free coach bus running from other German cities for this event.

Because “O2” seems “02,” at 6:02 pm on Friday, all O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores will begin to sell the iPhone (with a bigger box to accommodate the giant UK power plug) in the UK, 17 hours after the first iPhone is sold in Germany. Some O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores now show this timing on their display windows. The 12 UK Apple Store and the Apple UK web sites only say “November 9.
