Skyworks has released two new sports games for the iPhone and iPod touch: World Cup Ping Pong, World Cup Air Hockey, D-Crypto Baseball and Batter Up Baseball. They’re available for US$2.99 each at the Apple App Store. Here’s how the games are described:
“World Cup Ping Pong: In practice mode, select one of eight computer opponents to play against, while in Tournament Mode see how good you are against all of them! In Arcade Mode, play a new twist on the classic game with some added bonus features! With each of these modes, select up to three unique paddle styles to play with! Finally, in Head-to-Head Mode, complete in real-time against another player on the same iPhone/iPod touch.”
“World Cup Air Hockey: If you love hanging around arcades and playing classic arcade games, you will love World Cup Air Hockey. In Practice Mode, select one of eight computer opponents to play against, while in Tournament mOde see how good you are against all of t hem! In Head-to-Head Mode, compete in real-time against another player on the same iPhone/iPod touch.
“D-Crypto Baseball: You will need to unscramble letters to form the names of ball players and teams, and just about any other word you can figure out. The more words you make, the more points you will score. In Challenge Mode, you will have limited time to unscramble a variety of letters to spell the baseball-themed bonus word. As time counts down three clues will be provided to help you figure out the word correctly. If you are stuck, make as many other words as you can to progress to the next round. In Free Play Mode, see if you can unscramble the available letters to make every possible word combination. Make enough combos and you will move into the next round.
“Batter Up Baseball: You can hone your batting skills in two game modes and hit as many homeruns as you can in a real- rendered, retro-style ballpark, reminiscent of the days when baseball was simply ‘America’s Favorite Pastime.’ In Home Run mode, strikes, foul balls and infield hits will cost you a swing, but every homerun you hit will earn you an extra swing. In Arcade mode, you aim for billboard targets to earn even more extra swings. To bat, keep your eye on the mound, time your swing with the incoming pitch, then flick you finger towards the pitch to swing. The speed and direction of your swing will control the speed and direction of the ball. Once the ball is in flight, you can ‘influence’ the direction and speed using the iPhone/iPod touch accelerometer feature by tilting up/down or left/right.”
