Skype for Mac 2.5 has been released. It features the ability to send SMS messages to any mobile phone in the world. Also, Mac users can now use Skype to hold conference calls with up to nine other people. Calls can be made to Skype contacts for free and to landlines and mobiles for a small fee, via SkypeOut. There’s also a new birthday reminder feature.
Skype for Mac 2.5 also does free one-on-one video calls (assuming users have a broadband Internet connection). In case you’re not familiar with it, Skype is a free Universal Binary telephonic app that enables voice calling via the Internet.
Also, today is the final day for Skype users in the U.S. and Canada to subscribe to the Skype Unlimited Calling plan for the introductory rate of US$14.95for 12 months of unlimited SkypeOut calls to landline or mobile phone numbers in the U.S. or Canada. Tthe price goes up tomorrow to the regular rate of $29.95 for the same 12 months of unlimited SkypeOut calls.
Check out the offerings at Mac OS Ken and The Video Sandbox, Macsimum News.com’s media partners.

I tried the new Skype for Mac 2.5 while it was still in beta, and it was buggy for me - causing all kinds of problems. Hopefully, they’ve fixed ‘em (all or some).
One of the most irritating problems I experienced was that (with the new version, in beta) suddenly all my calls weren’t being forwarded to voicemail (when unanswered). (Even after I changed and verified my “Forward to Voicemail” settings, they still weren’t activated!?) I think this may have something to do with my (equally buggy) SMC wifi Skype phone, but I’m not sure. If anyone has any leads on this , please, let us know!

I’ve been waiting for this....Finally! I wonder if skype will ever find a way to hook up via bluetooth to my cell phone...so that it can communicate with my phone but place the calls via VOIP...then I will be in heaven. Sort of like BluePhone Elite, but using VOIP.
