Review: Classic Sleeve for MacBook Air elegant if a bit pricey

imageProporta’s Classic Sleeve is designed to fit the exact specifications of the MacBook Air. According to the folks at Proporta, it provides the same protection as that of a leather case. It’s made of a synthetic material—“faux leather,” so to speak.

The Classic Sleeve looks (but doesn’t smell) like leather, and has contrast external overstitching and a secure closure tab. It’s a dark greenish hue, which looks rather elegant thought I’d prefer a straight black or brown flavor. The inside of the case is lined with a finer-grained version of the same synthetic leather material used for the outside of the case.

The secure closure tab helps secure the MacBook Air. Instead of Velcro or a magnetic fastener, it uses a loop/strap system. It works well and adds to the polished appeal of the sleeve.

The Classic Sleeve fine for what it does, but at a retail price of US$54, is a little pricey by my standards as I prefer the $39 laptop SleeveCase for the MacBook Air by Waterfield Designs. On the other hand, Proporta does throw in some packets of Earl Grey Tea, which is a nice (and unique) touch that adds to the feel of “elegance” of the Proporta sleeve.

Dr Ron Balboa Says:

Unable to find a slim, elegant leather case for my MacbookAir, I stumbled on a portfolio made by the Swiss Army knife people, Wenger, called the Echelon at an office supply store. The Air fits beautifully behind in the left compartment, it zips closed and has a sweet little carry handle built in. My wife says its very professional looking. It was about $50.
