Qantas Airlines is seeking advice on whether it should place restrictions on the use of Mac notebooks on its aircraft, following the computer maker’s recall of 1.8 million batteries this week.
A Qantas spokesman told APC this afternoon that the company was seeking further information on the precise risk posed by the batteries in PowerBooks and iBooks, and whether they posed the same risk as Dell batteries. “We have put limitations on Dell computers and at this stage we are awaiting further information from Apple,” said the spokesman.

wow, i didn’t realize this battery recall is getting so much publicity. Again. what nonsence. Makes me wonder if ibook g4/powerbook owners are gonna be heating up their computers to the brink to see if they can get the recalled batterys to blow up. Apple would defintetly replace that computer with a new macbook/macbook pro

This is just silly. Not every Apple notebook has a Sony battery that is at risk, and not every Sony battery at risk is in Apple or Dell products.
On an airplane, no one will get up and walk away from their machine while it is running, so it is HIGHLY unlikely to ever get that hot. It will be noticed and turned off.
