Despite the flurry of reports that Apple and Nvidia are on the outs, Nvidia says that’s just not true. The reports have claimed that Apple may drop Nviida chips in Macs following a contract fight.
However, the Fudzilla web site claims to have spoken to “industry sources close to Nvidia” and gotten clear confirmation that “nothing has changed in the last few weeks.”
Currently, Nvidia graphics are crucial to Apple’s Mac lineup. All MacBooks, the Mac mini and the iMac use a GeForce 9400M to provide integrated graphics. Nvidia also provides hardware acceleration for H.264 video and will “eventually give even low-end systems acceleration of non-visual tasks using the OpenCL standard found in Mac OS X Snow Leopard,” according to AppleInsider.
