Nike and Apple shares went up yesterday after the announcement of the Nike+iPod products.
Nike was up US$3.22 to $81.20,with shares jumping 3.4 percent in midday trade on the New York Stock Exchange. Apple’s stock climbed 1.5 percent in Nasdaq trade, up $0.80 to $64.18.
The companies announced a new product that connects the new Nike+ Air Zoom Moire running shoe (which is equipped with a sensor and receiver) with an iPod nano to track and report running data in real time. Information on time, distance, calories burned and pace is stored on the iPod and displayed on the screen; real-time audible feedback also is provided through headphones. To make this work, you’ll need “The Nike+ Experience” software, which is due July 13.
While running, a woman’s voice will inform you of your progress. When the workout is done and the iPod is synced with the runner’s computer, progress is charted.
