MXL has released the MXL Studio 1 portable USB condenser microphone for the home recording market. It has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US$129.99 and is designed for music training, field recording, and professional spoken word recordings.
The MXL Studio 1 doesn’t require any special drivers and is “plug and play” for Mac and PC systems. To use it, you plug it into your portable or desktop computer via the USB port and set your preferences. The Studio 1 also has an integrated headphone jack that provides zero latency monitoring that provides a more accurate recording when doing voiceovers and Internet recording such as podcasts, interviews, and personalized radio or playlists, according to the folks at MXL.
The microphone features a two-micron diaphragm condenser capsule with a 40Hz-20kHz frequency response. The digital section features a 16-bit Delta Sigma A/D converter with available sampling rates of 44. kHz and 48kHz. A red LED light behind the protective grill indicates that the microphone is active and correctly oriented toward the user. The MXL Studio 1 includes a hard black plastic carrying case, desktop microphone stand/adapter, 10-foot USB cable, users manual, and application guide.
