Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC)—which specializes in network and embedded PowerPC processing, optical transport and storage solutions—has entered the Mac storage market arena with RAID technology for Apple’s PowerMac G5 Quad workstation.

Its new Sidecar external RAID solution leverages the company’s 3ware StorSwitch architecture, which integrates custom-designed firmware, hardware and management software optimized for high bandwidth applications. It offers up to 2TB (terabytes) of storage expansion.

Visitors to booth 511 at this week’s MacWorld Conference & Expo can see AMCC’s RAID technology in action in side-by-side performance demonstrations. Students of San Francisco State’s College of Fine Arts will also demonstrate the technology’s overall performance and ease-of-use by editing video in real-time.
