Apple has started offering Windows users its Safari 3.1 web browser through the same online updater it utilizes for iTunes and the QuickTime video player, notes CNET. And Mozilla, the folks behind the open source Firefox browser, aren’t happy about it.
With the release of Safari 3.1 on Tuesday, Apple started giving Windows users the option of downloading Safari via the Apple Software Update pop-up. In a blog post today, Mozilla CEO John Lilly describes why Mozilla feels Apple’s decision is wrong—and how moves like it can endanger the security of the web.
“What Apple is doing now with their Apple Software Update on Windows is wrong. It undermines the trust relationship great companies have with their customers, and that’s bad—not just for Apple, but for the security of the whole web,” he says. Read his blog for details, background and analysis.
Rick Auricchio Says:
So if Apple were to distribute Firefox this way, do you thing there would be any complaint? Of course not.

Dennis, please be precise and add “Inc” after “Apple”. Thanks for accrediting the original article, the original blog, with links to each and not passing it (the idea, the work) off as your own. Some are just so silly and original at that!
