In Fly Me to the Moon, directed by Ben Stassen and written by Domonic Paris, three young houseflies stow away aboard the Apollo 11 flight to the moon. Along the way they learn what they’re made of and learn to follow their dreams and believe in themselves.
If it sounds like standard kiddie animation fare, you’re right. Also, Fly Me to the Moon tosses in Russian flies hell-bent on stopping the space flight, a “never-too-old-to dream” grandad and a nefarious Russian operative.
What sets this film apart from most of its peers is that instead of being a 2D film jury-rigged for 3D, it was designed as a 3D film from the start. The 3D images are pretty good—it’s just too bad there’s not a more exciting story for them to illustrate.
The vocal talent includes Christopher Lloyd, Adrienne Barbeau, Robert Patrick, Tim Curry and other familiar names (or voices in this case). They do fine, but the plot of Fly Me to the Moon is predictable and cliched. However, a cameo by Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin near the end of the film is also sorta cute.
Which describes the movie overall. Sorta cute. It will appeal to young filmgoers, but may be too sugary sweet for older kids and parents.
Fly Me to the Moon is rated G. Running time: 84 minutes. Macsimum rating: 6 out of 10. You can check out the film’s trailer on the QuickTime movie trailer site.

ehhh i had to watch this at the Six Flags in Dallas because my friend wanted to watch it. It was 3D but the glasses at the six flags were bent and didn’t focus correctly so gave me bit of nausea. also the film they showed was about 15 minutes long so i’m guessing it was a short preview or just “summary” or something like that. overall i didn’t like it but that’s probably because i’m 23;;;;
