Traffic to tax-related sites skyrocketed as more surfers flocked to the Web to beat this year’s upcoming April 15 filing deadline. Sixty-eight percent of people have either filed their taxes online or are still planning to do so, according to an independent study
conducted by Feedback Research, a division of the Claria Corp., a company that specializes in behavioral marketing.
Feedback Research analyzed the actual online behavior of Claria’s anonymous users to gain insight into taxpayers’ online and offline behavior while preparing for the 2004 tax season. The research study ran from Feb. 1 to April 8 among users who viewed tax-related Web sites. Feedback Research also surveyed a random sampling of Claria users to
gauge interest and activity around tax-related services.
When viewing the tax category, the official IRS site was the most popular destination with 69 percent of survey respondents indicating that they have viewed or will view the IRS Web site. Actual online traffic also validated the popularity of the IRS Web site, which captured 51.7 percent of total traffic to the taxes category during the research period, followed by Intuit.com with 18 percent and Turbotax.com with 15 percent of traffic.
