Macsimum Migration Kit: Groupware software for the Mac, part 1

imageFor those new to the column, Macsimum Migration is our term for companies moving from Windows machines to Macs—or at least adding or increasing the number of Macs they use. A Macsimum Migration kit is an overview of Mac OS products for a particular occupation, such as dentistry, accounting, etc. This week we’re serving up part one of our two-part look at groupware products for the Mac.

4D Meetings

4D Meetings is a scheduling and task management application that synchronizes with Outlook, iCal and AddressBook. It’s compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

ARTIS Team Task

ARTIS Team Task is a s a networked, peer-to-peer task manager for sharing tasks, ideas, and to-dos. It can use Bonjour to locate other team members on the network and offers the ability to send tasks to other team members. (Formerly known as Rendezvous, Bonjour lets you create an instant network of computers and smart devices by getting them connected to each other.) Features include drag-and-drop organizing, filtering while you type, due dates, priorities, optional auto-sorting, an archive and more. ARTIS Team Task works with Mac OS X 10.2 and later.

At Task

At Task is a Mac OS X, web-native, extensible project management for the enterprise. It includes tools for project management, help desk and request management, schedule prediction, resource allocation management, work costing and budgeting, document management and more.

Communigate Pro with Groupware

CommuniGate Pro with Groupware is a messaging and collaboration solution, providing a framework for team members. It includes sharing information, discussing ideas online, and prioritizing and scheduling teamwork and meetings. The product enables Microsoft Outlook in workgroup mode, allowing enterprises to support email, contacts, shared folders, calendaring and group scheduling features for their users who prefer the familiar Outlook interface. CommuniGate Pro with Groupware also extends groupware productivity beyond the desktop by providing collaborative functionality via the Web interface, and any other client or device adhering to existing and emerging Internet standards. It’s compatible with Mac OS X Server and Mac OS X 10.1 and higher.

Connect

Connect enables users to create, share and modify contacts, calendars and tasks between and across MOS X, Windows and Linux desktop environments. It integrates with iCal and Address Book for OS X, Microsoft Entourage, Microsoft Outlook and Novell Evolution. A web interface is also available. You can share your personal calendar with select individuals, check the “free/busy” availability of other team members and schedule meetings, schedule and track shared tasks, create individual and group address books, maintain compatibility with any email server (dedicated company server or ISP), support users across single or multiple email domains. Connect requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

Copper

Copper s a web-based project management tool created for creative teams. Running on Mac OS X with PHP and mySQL technologies, Copper allows your team to manage clients, projects, contacts, and files. You can allow management, staff, clients, and subcontractors secure access to only the information you want them to see.

Core Contact Manager

Core Contact Manager is Mac OS X software suitable for both single- and multi-user environments. It manages contact, scheduling and tasks.

ecOrganizer

ecOrgaziner is a Mac OSX organizer, contact and project management systems with additional modules for quotations, invoicing and time/cost management. ecOrganizer is targeted to users such as accountants, architects, consultants and graphic designers, as well as for sales automation. To use it, you’ll need FileMaker Pro 6 or later.

Enact Enterprise System

Enact Enterprise System is a is a web browser-based product targeted at real-time, enterprise-wide project management, collaboration, document control, and issue tracking. Mac OS X compatible, it incorporates the products of ActionPlan, ActionView and Action Task into a single unified interface that provides executive management, team members, external partners, and project planners with tools for managing projects in real time.

Faciliate Pro

Facilitate Pro lets you conduct virtual or real time meetings over Internet or an intranet/LAN. It works with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x.

FileMaker Meetings

FileMaker Meetings is a purpose-built meeting management application designed to make it easy to create an agenda, take and distribute meeting minutes, and communicate agreed-upon action items. It requires Mac OS X 10.2 or higher and FileMaker Pro 7.

FirstClass Business Edition

FirstClass is a work group communication system that integrates e-mail and groupware features with remote access, forms processing, and comprehensive support for Internet standards. It works with Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.6-9.x. There’s also an education edition.

Groupville

Groupville is a web-based portal and groupware software solution. The software is available in different versions from small workgroups (free for up to three users) up to large Intranet and Internet deployments. GroupVille allows for information publication, information sharing and exchange in Intranets and Extranets. It includes a shared calendar, messaging (Webmail, SMS and internal Messaging) Wiki, news and forums. GroupVille works with any recent web browser (HTML, no client-side Java required). A mobile HTML client for PDAs, smartphones and mobile phones is available as optional “GroupVille Mobile” package. It works with Mac OS X Server 10.3 or higher.

IntraSmart Internet Software

IntraSmart Internet Software enables organizations to deploy an intranet solution. It has a customizable graphical user interface and features that include scheduling, announcements, vacation & leave, discussion boards, live chat, updates & modifications to documents and other communication function. IntraSmart needs Mac OS X Server to run.

iStorm

iStorm is an online collaboration program. It has optional password protection, color management toolbar item, word count, built-in QuickTime Player, inline TeX equation generator and calculator, shared color chalkboard, simultaneous text editing in the scratchpad, voicegram chatting, video capture from webcam and synchronized navigation and annotation of imported PDF files. iStorm requires Mac OS X 10.2 or higher.

iTime

iTime is a 4D-based Internet-intranet management solution with six modules: agenda, memos, phone messaging, queries tracker, mail and facilities assets management. It works with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x
