Macsimum Migration: Dental software, part I

In this week’s Macsimum Migration Kit, we’re revisiting Mac OS X products tailored for Mac-using dentists. For those new to the column, Macsimum Migration is our term for companies moving from Windows machines to Macs—or at least adding or increasing the number of Macs they use. A Macsimum Migration kit is an overview of Mac OS X products for a particular occupation, such as dentistry, accounting, etc.
° AccountMaster Dental Laboratory (shown) handles dental invoices and accounts receivable.
° ACE Dental is a comprehensive practice management system for dental offices. It offers scheduling, plain paper forms, electronic claims submission, accurate insurance estimation, flexible cycle billing, as well as a host of other features. A complete video tutorial is included with the program. ACE Dental runs on any Mac. aMac Digital Radiography System is a dental radiographic system built for Mac OS X. aMac will “bridge” to most practice management systems available for the Mac.
° A.I.med EMR & Practice Management Software is Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Practice Management Software for medical practices of all sizes and specialties.
° apolloniaX is an application for dental practitioners. Apollonia is based on the German law specifications. To use it in other countries the developers are able to redesign parts of the software.
° AVIS is a medical management system specially designed for company doctors. AVIS manages the patients’ records, dates and more. It’s available in three versions.
° Carnoy is an image analysis program designed for carrying out measurements on digital micrographs obtained from light or electron microscopes.
° ChartEvolve is designed to help medical personnel create notes about patients that are easy to read and HIPAA compliant. It’s Mac OS X compatible.
° ComChart EMR is a medical record application that’s based on the FileMaker Pro database engine.
° ConceptDraw Medical Edition is flowcharting software for creating diagramming illustrations. It includes more than 400 task-related objects, as well as specialized image sets in topics. It’s compatible with Mac OS 8.6 or higher and Mac OS X.
° CygnaScope FireWire Series Intraoral Camera combines the speed of FireWire with dental camera technology. It can be used to examine a patient’s mouth, upper and lower arch, smile and facial areas.
° DentalManager is practice management software for dentists that’s available in English, Dutch, French and other languages. It’s designed to provide a multi-user (dentists and assistants) paperless office replete with patient administration, treatment administration, graphic appointments book, integrated digital photography and radiology connections, bookkeeping, correspondence, mailing, reporting, video registration and patient flow control.
° Dental Office Manager II, which comes in three versions (Basic, Standard and Gold) includes features for patient/insurance billing, recall system, management reports and more.
° Escape Medical Viewer is a DICOM viewer and converter.
° EXmedic handles all aspects of medical billing, insurance profiles and patient scheduling; it also includes a multi-homing e-mail subsystem.
° Freedom is a medical practice management solution with a built-in dictation system.
° Genie is medical software for Australian doctors. It covers all clinical and billing tasks, including prescription-writing, referrals, pathology requests and automated downloads, consultation summaries, recall system and more.
° Gesdent 2 is dental office management software that’s open-ended and modular.
° iDental 1.8 a Universal Binary dental office management system. It provides migration of balances forward and historical ledger items, Note Templates with Images, new reports (with export ability for data manipulation), an integrated Documentation Viewer, One Step Backup from within iDental, both patient and procedure-based recall, and SmartScheduling.
° IPLab provides scientific imaging, visualization, analysis and laboratory automation in a single package. Applications include microscopy, biomedicine, astronomy, remote sensing and more.
° KIP Deluxe Medical Office and Billing Software is medical office management and billing software.
° 
MacDent Pro is a Mac OS X only dental solution. Its features include scheduling, 3D charting, prescriptions, image manipulation, digital x-ray link, treatment planning, e-claims and more. Scheduling is the centerpiece of the software.
° MacPractice EDR (Electronic Dental Records) is designed to make it easy for dentists who use MacPractice DDS with MacPractice EDR to customize the forms provided by MacPractice and create new ones. Dentists can create and interact with clinical data including health history and clinical notes with graphic annotations on teeth as they are accustomed to doing in paper.MacPractice plans to make EDR interactive with the ledger in MacPractice DDS. And MacPractice plans to release MacPractice Tooth Chart in the first quarter of 2008.
° Mango is dental software designed to streamline patient management with scheduling and billing resources, including HIPAA compliant e-claims service.
° MD-JADE Medical Workstation is medical workstation software for soft copy reading images such as computer tomography (CT), magnetic resonance images (MRI) or digital radiography (CR, DX, MX).
° Med-Center handles patient accounts, cases, scheduling, procedures administered, insurance, billing, accounts receivable, referral tracking, prescriptions, electronic records, and patient contacts.
° NueMD is a practice management solution delivered over the Internet. NueMD allows interactive online eligibility verification, claims submission, and reporting and analysis for a monthly subscription fee. NueMD claims that it’s solution is the first Internet-based and Mac-enabled practice management solutions.
° Media Log is software for recording and tracking personal medical and dental data.
° MediaCare Pro is medical practice software.
° MediaClick is a solution for management and electronic billing for health care professionals. It includes patient records, appointments, prescriptions and accounting and other features.
° MediaFile is a patient care, practice management, RIS and PACS tool.
° MediStory is a solution for the management of medical patients’ files. It includes administrative and medical patient management tools.
