MacOSG: Apple vs. PCs

I was watching ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ recently and they were showing different computers you can buy for the Holidays. They had a Toshiba laptop on there that only weighed around 2-pounds. They also had a 24’ iMac and a 17” MacBook Pro both running iChat for demonstration.

Now the new laptop that Apple is rumored to be unveiling at Macworld will probably be comparable to the 2-pound Toshiba, but is it just me, or does it seem like Apple is getting a little ‘late in the game’ when it comes to their computers? Shouldn’t the new laptop have been ready for the Holidays?

Another thing that caught my attention, is some of the other laptops they were showing had more features on them that are not even available on a Mac laptop yet. One had a HD DVD burner in it that can burn a 30G DVD. Another one had a keyboard with a lot of cool built-in shortcut features.

Now Apple hit a ‘home run’ in the cellphone market with the early adoption of the innovative iPhone, but you have to wonder where they are focusing their priorities. It sure doesn’t seem like their computers. In my honest opinion, Leopard has even suffered. It’s the most problematic new Mac OS that I have ever experienced.

What are your thoughts?

You could say the same thing every year...new products are often announced at MWSF, which always happens in early January.

This shouldn’t be a surprise. Thus far, Apple has endorsed Blu-Ray, not HD-DVD. Also, their media strategy is clearly geared more towards digital distribution rather than physical media such as DVDs.

Apple keyboards have a lot of cool shortcut features. You just need to know what they are.  :-)

I’ve been very happy with Leopard so far. IMO, the first release of 10.3 was worse.
