Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit (the Mac BU) is offering the second of several sneak peeks at Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, which is due in January 2008. You can visit the Office 2008 Sneak Peek site for details.
Now being showcased is the the Toolbox, which has been revamped to become a “one-stop destination for some of the most useful tools in Office for Mac.” Incorporating the original Office for Mac Toolbox and Formatting Palette into a single UI, this Mac-only feature is designed to give users instant access to the tools they need, including Object Palette, Animation Settings, Citations, and Formula Builder.

It took me a while to learn how to find all the commands on the Office 2007 menu and I find the new style is a bit restraining.
Heck, there even a company who sell add-in item that bring back the old style menus…

So instead of a property editor, they will call it a Toolbox and this is original?? I would just like for M$ to use the same tools and and methods I find in other OS X apps instead of having to dig dig dig through convoluted layers of dialogue boxes to color a line in Word.
In other words.. dump the Toolbox et al and just use the same properties and media tools that access common actions and media libraries like many of the other OS X programs are doing.
One of my biggest gripes about the MS Office programs is that I can’t easily access my common media libraries like I can with iWork (Keynote/Pages/Numbers), iLife, Pro apps, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner, MacFamilyTree, et al. Little things like that really cut down on Office’s usefulness on a Mac

Damn. A press release basically stating: new for 2008, we’re moving around existing features, so you can spend a couple of months relearning where everything is!
It’s fun to have to relearn how to use an application every few years. Keeps your mind active.
