Macs accounted for 56 percent of Apple’s total quarterly revenue of the most recent financial quarter that ended March 31, according to Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer (shown) in an interview with analysts and the press. Apple shipped 1,517,000 Macs during the quarter, representing 36 percent growth in Macs over the year-ago quarter.
“We continue to be very pleased with the Mac sales’ growth, and the latest results exceeded exceeded our expectations,” Oppenheimer says. “Sales grew 36 percent; that’s more than three times the industry growth rate.”
Mac notebook sales grew 79 percent year-over-year. MacBooks and MacBook Pros now account for 56 percent of total Macs sold.
Oppenheimer says that this was the best March quarter in Apple’s history. International sales accounted for 43 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
