Looking at another option for broadband access

Recently, I did a three-part series on setting up satellite Internet on a Mac for those who have no other recourse to broadband access (you can read ‘em here: Part 1, Part II and Part III). However, there’s another, little-known option that may work for some folks.
My friend, Gerry Curry of Curry Systems & Consulting in Canada, has designed and established wireless high-speed Internet connections using standard WiFi equipment and highly directional antennas to extend the range of conventional wire-based connections such as DSL and cable. He uses equipment from a Canadian company called Explornet.
Explorent’s equipment is a combination of using two service delivery platforms—fixed wireless and satellite—that allows folks who set up wireless systems to reach suburban, rural and remote customers who would otherwise would have no access to affordable high-speed Internet. Gerry has made a video of how he’s implemented wireless high-speed Internet connections using standard WiFi equipment and highly directional antennas. You can view it here.
