Levi’s RedWire jeans to offer integration with iPods

It was inevitable that Apple and Levi would work together considering that Steve Jobs introduced the iPod nano by demonstrating that the new super cool iPod would fit into a jean pant change pocket. The Jeans worn that day by Steve Jobs were Levi’s. Today, Levi introduced their RedWire Jean promotional campaign.
CNW reports that “Levi’s is marrying digital technology and denim in time for back-to-school with the new Levi’s RedWire jeans. Known for innovative styling and phenomenal fits, Levi’s has designed RedWire jeans for men and women seamlessly incorporating fashion, function and technology by combining stylish denim and the iconic iPod. A must-have for fall, teens and adults can now accessorize their iPod with a great pair of jeans. Rockin’ out and looking great has never been easier with the Levi’s® RedWire jeans. There are two different formats available this fall: DLX and Basic.
1 – Deluxe technology
Features of Levi’s RedWire DLX Jeans Include:
Easy pocket storage: An iPod docking cradle is built into the jeans and is “invisibly” housed within a side pocket. The Levi’s® design team took special care to ensure the iPod unit remains neatly and securely stored in the jean, while the iPod “bump” in the pocket is virtually eliminated. The cradle is equipped with sophisticated technology housed in a red conductive ribbon that allows users to quickly and easily remove their iPod from the pocket to view its screen while staying connected. The jean is machine washable once the iPod is removed.
“Hip” controls: A special joystick remote control is built directly into the jeans and sits outside of the jeans’ watch pocket to enable operation of the iPod. Four-way controls allow the wearer to easily play/pause, track forward, track back and adjust the volume control without ever removing the iPod from your pocket.
Retractable headphones: A handy retractable headphone unit has been designed to work with into the jean to help prevent tangles and efficiently manage the iPod earphone wires.

2 – Just the Basics

Although the press release appears to be restricting the RedWire line of Jeans in Canada, I’m sure that it will be offered in the US. It could be a spot marketing campaign for the moment until Steve Jobs introduces it officially on stage at a future event.
