Kid Rock says, ‘steal everything’ (video)

imagePop rocker Kid Rock, recently posted a sarcastic video on YouTube encouraging people to steal music. Apparently he’s upset with the record industry and announced that he’s boycotting iTunes, because he says between Apple and the labels, they’re keeping all the money.

In true rock and roll style, Kid Rock wasn’t going to do as he was told. “I was telling kids – download it illegally, I don’t care,” he said. “I want you to hear my music so I can play live.”

Kid Rock is boycotting iTunes because he says that artists are not getting their fair share of the revenue generated by the Apple Store. He is annoyed at this ‘old system’ “where iTunes takes the money, the record company takes the money, and they don’t give it to the artists”.

He concedes though that he’ll probably have to put his music on iTunes at some point but notes that he’s doing fine overall without it: “I’ve just sold a million records, I’m not really feeling that blow” he said.

i thought it’s clear apple is not really making $$$/€€€ with the music and videos, they make the real money wth the hardware…

if he doesn’t get any then the music industry is to blame, no itunes...!!!

John Says:

Yes, it’s very misguided logic in fact. He’s telling you to steal music, yet selling his own? I’m curious, is he working with a record company to produce it? Or did he start his OWN RECORD COMPANY which puts him in the hot seat as one of the very people he protests. If he gives his music away, he has no money.

The system, as much as the artists protest it, is very much alive, and a part of who and what they are. It’s called negotiations. Not all artists get rich like Garth Brooks, in fact most won’t. But the ranting and raving about who gets what and when has gotten really old and whiny at this point. If you don’t like the recording labels, don’t touch them. It’s that simple. They’re not inevitable, like death and taxes. You do have a choice Kid.

It was sarcasm… He said it’s okay to steal music as long as you steal anything else you don’t feel like paying for, too.  If you steal music, you should steal the iPod and laptop, too.  Steal a car, and the gas for it, too.  Theft is theft is theft, so either steal it all or pay for it all.  I loved it.

you guys didnt get the joke, amazing.. i supposed you guys also thought Team America was also serious.

hes saying stealing music is just like stealing a Toyota, just because Toyota is rich doesnt make it right to steal it...thats how they make money, just like the reason you clock in everyday at work.

but the thought process is flawed!

downloading music, legit or not is not like stealing a car, or stealing gas…

first the percentage of people doing it is much higher, second, the amounts involved are much lower… third, the chance of getting caught is around zero… unless your a total loser and don;t use software to hide your identity on the web....
