Intuit has purportedly fixed a flaw that was causing an automatic software update for QuickBooks Pro 2006 and 2007 to delete data on a Mac by correcting an internal server that had caused the problem. The company said the message should no longer appear to users opening up the QuickBooks application, reports ComputerWorld.
Intuit said it hasn’t been able to come up with a resolution to allow end users to recover files that were lost as a result of the problem, the article adds. The company said it is working on that but could not predict when a fix would be issued. Intuit officials could not be reached for comment on the flaw.
According to Intuit, the automatic update for QuickBooks Pro Mac 2006 had displayed the message, “There is not enough space to install.” The flawed update instantly removed stored files from the Mac desktop folder.

cavenewt Says:
QB 2006 users lost data. QB 2007 users, fortunately, didn’t, but got spurious “Desktop xx” files created in their Home directory. Intuit just posted a KnowledgeBase article advising QB 2007 users that it’s ok to delete files named “Desktop” or “Desktop 1” or “Desktop X” from their User folder. This is LUDICROUS. DO NOT delete “Desktop” or, like the QB 2006 users, your desktop will vanish--though in this case, if you realize it soon enough, you can drag it out of the Trash, if you haven’t emptied the Trash. I expect Intuit to correct the horribly bad advice in the KB article soon, but be forewarned.
