The growth and acceptance of Software-as-a-Service and/or Cloud Computing is understandable. What’s not is the bewildering number of web-based services that aren’t compatible with all browsers —especially Safari.
The NetApplications firm recently reported that the Apple browser broke past seven percent share of browser usage. What’s more, research firm Gartner, which cites Apple having a 6.6 percent share of the U.S. computer market, is projecting that piece of the pie to double in size by 2011.
“It makes no sense, whatsoever, to have any kind of online service be incompatible with any browser, particularly Safari from Apple, given how that company’s growth is outpacing the rest of the PC brands,” says Mike McDerment, founder and CEO of FreshBooks, an online invoicing service. ”... A key appeal of SaaS or Cloud Computing is compatibility … is openness. It amazes me so many web-based services or applications don’t get that.”
