Dr. Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, has been elected to Apple’s board of directors. He also sits on Google’s board of directors and Princeton University’s board of trustees.
“Eric is obviously doing a terrific job as CEO of Google, and we look forward to his contributions as a member of Apple’s board of directors,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a press release. “Like Apple, Google is very focused on innovation and we think Eric’s insights and experience will be very valuable in helping to guide Apple in the years ahead.”
Schmidt joined Google from Novell, where he was chairman and CEO. At Google, he shares responsibility for Google’s day-to-day operations, and is focused on building the corporate infrastructure. Prior to joining Novell, Eric was chief technology officer at Sun Microsystems, where he led the development of Java, Sun’s platform-independent programming technology, and defined Sun’s Internet software strategy. Before joining Sun in 1983, he was a member of the research staff at the Computer Science Lab at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), and held positions at Bell Laboratories and ZiLOG.
Schmidt has a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University, and a master’s and Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California-Berkeley. In 2006, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, which recognized his work on “the development of strategies for the world’s most successful Internet search engine company.”
“Apple is one of the companies in the world that I most admire,” Schmidt said. “I’m really looking forward to working with Steve and Apple’s board to help with all of the amazing things Apple is doing.”

Hmmm…

Google founder joins Apple board.
Seems like something is in the making here. I also expect that the latest round of “Apple to be purchased by [fill in the blank]” stories to start hitting the blogs. Of course, Google would be in the blank this time.

“...have to deal with M$ and its inclination to conquer and destroy” . . .
*Sigh*
That’s a Microsoft way of doing things. Not Apple. Neither Google I think.
To deal with Microsoft, as a competitor, is to be 200% better. And not be a startup with venture capitals . . .
I don’t say that Apple do things 200% better. I say that they have to.

Seems like gTunes Video is in the works.
Both Jim and Steve have to deal with M$ and its inclination to conquer and destroy. It’s a good thing for these two to work together, partnering in video and media.
Google seems to be best in class (by far) in network and server domination. Apple owns the desktop/media/cool space. Why not get together and jointly grow their franchises into total domiantion of search/ads/network/media/desktop/home (media and file) server/bling and such? This is great news…
Wonder if Steve will be on Google’s board next. ; )
Let the good times roll! I’m long on aapl; tomorrow goog’s it is.
