Freshly Squeezed Reviews: I didn’t Speck this much

There are only two known things that’ll force a grown man to cry. First is a tax audit. Second, is a dropped iPhone. Some have been inconsolable and have wept for days in a locked room.
What? Are there no guards to prevent such horrific events? Yes, there are, despite my lame attempt at prose (I’m paid by the word you know).
First up, ToughSkin (US$34), which is shown above. “ToughSkin[’s] rugged rubberized case sports a distinct, textured pattern that protects your iPhone from accidental bumps and drops without adding bulk or limiting access to buttons and controls.”
Rather a bit of fashion instead? ”[Fitted’s] durable, lightweight snap-together design lets you instantly make your iPhone 3G a fashion statement. Soft fabric provides added comfort and extra grip in hand.”
The Juice
The rugged ToughSkin consists of two parts; a leather, exterior carrier featuring a metallic lock and belt clip. An included stand, including some design elements of the exterior case, allow you stand up your iPhone 3G at your desk.
The Fitted collection ($29.95) is designed for pleasing aesthetics, but is quite durable, as well. It’s constructed (as is the ToughSkin) with extra thickness at the corners for extra protection. The fabric exterior also makes the Fitted collection very easy to grip your iPhone 3G.
Both lines provide you with the necessary openings, such as camera lens, power switch, volume, et al.
The Pulp
While the ToughSkin is great for using in industrial or construction settings, I tested one of the Fitted models. I have to say that I was quite surprised that something that looked so good could be so sturdy. But I found to drawbacks in my usage.
First, the case was just thick enough that I had trouble using the power button with my sausage fingers. Second, seeing as Speck did such an admirable job protecting the casing, I was a bit disappointed to find that there was no scratch proof cover for the screen
The Rind
Nada.
Summary
Speck has long been a maker of skins and transparent cases for Apple mobile devices and Notebooks. These new iPhone 3g cases carry on that tradition of quality. Now, thanks to my Fitted case, my iPhone 3G won’t be as slippery to hold as a dead fish.
