WorldSync has updated fmDataGuard—a product for FileMaker Pro solutions that provides the technological basis for regulatory compliance, logs all data changes and allows for instant data rollback or quick recovery from a crash or corruption—to version 1.1. The update adds support for logging Viewed data, and new SQL query and execution capabilities.
fmDataGuard provides those solutions built with FileMaker Pro software with the technological basis for regulatory audit trail compliance, logs all data changes, and allows for instant data rollback or quick recovery from a crash or corruption. The new View option for data logging gives the developer another choice for control over which, and how, events are logged.
Beyond new support for logging Viewed data, fmDataGuard also introduces a new SQL Execute capability. Developers can now send dynamic SQL queries and execute functions directly to FileMaker, enabling them to include data modifications to remote tables, constantly update data in layouts, perform data updates without requiring special relationships, or construct advanced relationships including “or” criteria. fmDataGuard 1.1 is also a maintenance release with minor, optional function enhancements and fixes to reported issues.
fmDataGuard works with FileMaker Pro 8.5 and FileMaker Server 8.0v4 and provides complete audit trail capture, with no scripting, layout modifications, or custom development required, according to Jason Erickson, president and CEO of WorldSync. fmDataGuard captures all Add, Change and Delete actions to a separate table, keeping a field-level change history. The resultant fmDataGuard log meets the audit log requirements for regulatory mandates such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and European Union Privacy (Basel II) and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).
In addition fmDataGuard is designed to make it easy to recover from a crash or corruption, and to revert undesired data modifications. fmDataGuard uses the logged changes to empower administrators to “roll back” data with a single button click. Similarly, administrators can roll forward using log data to reconcile the last known good backup with the current state of the database since that backup, hence updating the backup. If needed, data recovery is provided for both the field-level and the record-level modifications. fmDataGuard also supports logging of custom events, such as user login and logout, report generation and more.
WorldSync costs US$1,250 for a site license. Vertical application developer licenses are available for $1,850 per application. Small companies and those wanting to try fmDataGuard on a more limited basis can do so using a US$150 per user license. Version 1.1 is a free update for registered users.
