Xeric Design has updated EarthDesk, the dynamic desktop map that supports accurate moonlight and multiple display, to version 4.4. The upgrade improves the handling of satellite cloud images and is able to detect and ignore images with missing data sent from the satellite receiving station.
EarthDesk replaces the static desktop with an image of the Earth showing current sun, moon and city illumination, as well as real-time global cloud coverage, allowing users to track hurricanes and other weather systems on their Mac desktop. The software operates silently in the background, keeping your desktop updated while you work. Unlike a screen saver, which only appears when your system is idle, EarthDesk’s dynamic desktop is continuously displayed as your desktop background (and optionally as a screen saver).
EarthDesk requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. A single user license is US$24.95. Registered users of EarthDesk 4.x can upgrade to version 4.4 for free. Users of earlier versions can update for $11.95.
