DEVONtechnologies has released updates for all editions of its smart document manager, DEVONthink, as well as for its intelligent Internet search agent, DEVONagent, and its personal notebook application, DEVONnote. The updates solve incompatibilities with Mac OS X 10.5 (“Leopard”) and bring additional functionality.
All applications now support Microsoft Office 2007 and OpenDocument files on Mac OS X 10.5, accept links to email messages dragged from Apple Mail, and offer the standard PDF options in the contextual menu of PDFs loaded live from the Web. On Mac OS X 10.5, all four apps now also support the new Find indicator and come with minor interface adjustments. In addition, the built-in advertisement filter is more accurate and two new plain text types have been added. Finally, DEVONthink Pro Office adds support for the CanoScan Toolbox as well as better error checking during the scanning process.
Besides fixing some problems on Mac OS X 10.5, DEVONagent 2.3 introduces one-click translation of web pages, an improved history function, and the possibility to export archived groups including sub-groups. For every web page, DEVONagent shows a little flag representing the recognized main language of the page. If the language is different from the user’s main language, clicking the flag translates the page using the Google language tools. In addition, most scanners have been improved and a number of search engine plugins have been overhauled. Scanners screen downloaded search results, e.g., for attached documents, embedded images, or linked email addresses.
Further, the built-in advertisement filter has been improved, and so has AppleScript support, news feed display, URL handling, and the reliability of the language filters. On Leopard, DEVONagent 2.3 also uses the new Find indicator and features a few other user interface adjustments.
DEVONthink Professional Office 1.3.4, DEVONthink Professional 1.3.4, DEVONthink Personal 1.9.11, DEVONnote 1.9.11, and DEVONagent 2.3 require Mac OS X 10.4 or later. They can be downloaded and test-driven for free for 150 hours of non-continuous runtime (DEVONagent for 60 hours) until they need to be properly licensed.
DEVONthink Professional Office sells for US$149.95, DEVONthink Professional for $79.95, DEVONthink Personal for $39.95, DEVONnote for $19.95, and DEVONagent for $49.95 in DEVONtechnologies’ online shop. DEVONthink Pro (Office) and DEVONagent are also available as bundles.
