Caution installing a lot of iPhone apps

With the App Store opening soon and over 500 apps available for download, you may be tempted to install and try a ton of free apps. This could potentially cause problems though.

Similar to the operating system on your Mac, the iPhone uses a “lite” version of OS X. By installing a bunch of different applications, you could potentially run into conflicts between system files—such as extensions, for example. I ran into this problem after installing over 60 apps on my iPhone.

There is no way to do an Archive and Install on an iPhone like you can on your Mac, so I ended up having to restore the phone and lost everything I had installed up to that point.

I would suggest uninstalling an application right after trying it out, if you don’t plan on keeping it. This may prevent a lot of headaches down the road and having to start all over. Remember, iTunes only backs up setting and will not reinstall all your applications for you after you perform a restore. You’re back to square one.
