UpBeat Audio’s Boostaroo Revolution Boostaroo Revolution lets on-the-go Apple audiophiles listen to digital music or movies in 3-D surround sound when plugged into any flavor of iPod,plus iBooks, PowerBooks, MacBook Pros or other portable players. I tried it and found it to be a great way to boost and/or share audio on an iPod, a laptop or a variety of headphones (the items on which I tested it), all with no distortion.
At six ounces, and the size of a disposable lighter, the Revolution is a portable amplifier and two-way splitter. It drives two sets of high-end headphones (greater than 60 ohms), or mini-speakers, to share tunes or movies. The Revolution can also quadruples the volume and demultiplexes compressed digital music files and images stereo into high-definition 3-channel surround sound.
The US$79.95 Boostaroo Revolution powers portable players that have a headphone jack, such as: iPods and other MP3 players; laptops; DVD, CD and satellite radio players; and handheld video games like the Sony PSP, Game Boy and Nintendo DS. Just plug the compact device into any music player and high-end headset to experience 3-channel surround sound plus enhanced volume and clarity.
The Boostaroo Revolution makes bass more defined and highs clearer and crisper. The sound is louder at a lower device volume level. It also increases the battery life of your audio player, because the player doesn’t have to function as the amplifier. The Boostaroo Revolution itself runs for about 20 hours on two AA batteries.
With it, two folks can listen to audio on one device. The Boostaroo Revolution is small and durable, so it’s great for carrying on planes. My wife and I used it to share tunes from her iBook en route to San Francisco to cover the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco. It’s also fantastic for beefing up audio to compensate for the roar of plane engines.
The Boostaroo Revolution is a well-designed product with a well-defined purpose. And it’s practically perfect at its job.
