BenQ has released “ultra-green” displays with 16:9 aspect ratios that purportedly emit 25-50 percent less CO2 than traditional displays. The company’s E900HD and G900HD feature a two-lamp design that still emits the bright 300 nits of four-lamp models.
BenQ’s 2-lamp design features several benefits over conventional four-lamp displays, according to Peter Chen, general manager of the BenQ Technology Product Center. The 18.5-inch models still maintain a 300-nit brightness and 10,000:1 DCR (dynamic contrast ratio), but use only 30W total power. Emissions of CO2 are drastically decreased by 25 percent while that of mercury is cut 50 percent, Chen adds.
Both models feature convenient D-Sub input and DVI-D with HDCP. The E900HD also features a headphone jack and integrated speakers. They’ll be available later this month in China, and select countries in Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America. Pricing hasn’t been announced.
