Telstra Corp.has had talks with Apple, which is planning to launch its iPhone handset in Australia next year, and is testing the device, a company spokesman says (as noted by MarketWatch.
Australia’s largest telecommunications company has began talks with California-based Apple, Telstra chief executive Sol Trujillo told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper. The Melbourne-based company would be interested in the device if the iPhone delivered “an enhanced experience for Telstra’s customers”, he said.
“We have been testing the iPhone as we would any device that comes into the country,” added a Telstra spokesman, adding no decision has been made. Apple would have to produce an iPhone compatible with Telstra’s Next G network, which operates at 850 megaHertz frequency and needs specialized handsets, Trujillo told the Telegraph.
