imageAtico International USA, which makes iPod accessories, says it hasn’t infringed on Apple’s patents and trademarks. In May Apple sued Atico, claiming it infringed five patents for accessories used with the device.

Apple wants a jury trial and an order to stop Atico from selling infringing products in the US, The lawsuit accuses Atico of abusing Apple’s “Made for iPod” licensing program, which lets iPod accessories manufacturers, distributors and retailers sell accessories with a “Made for iPod” logo on their packaging or advertisements.

According to CNN Money, Atico, in its court papers, admitted it “facilitates the acquisition” of Apple’s iPod handheld digital media player. It also said it isn’t part of Apple’s “Made for iPod” program. Yet, any purported use of Apple’s intellectual property by the company was covered by a fair use doctrine, Atico lawyers say.
