imageArten Science has updated macVCR, a Mac OS X 10.5 (“Leopard”) application that records your screen activity and saves it to a QuickTime movie, to version 2.0. The upgrade sports such new features as Magnify at the Cursor, Simultaneous Video Camera Recording, Unlimited User Presets and a Date and Time Overlay Option. Existing customers can upgrade free of charge.

macVCR doesn’t require any form of installation, just double click the icon and the program will launch. With it you can specify recording length—or operate manually. macVCR offers: adjustable compression quality; a choice of codecs; and the ability to specify the number of frames per second. The folks at Arten Science say it has low disk and processor usage.

macVCR is Universal Binary so runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. A trial version of macVCR is available for download. It only allows you to record 60 seconds of continuous activity. The full version is available for an introductory price of US$21.22. As with all of Arten Science products macVCR remains free to educational and charity organizations.
