Apricorn, which specializes in personal storage, has announced the latest addition to the Aegis suite of products: the Aegis Desktop, an eSATA/USB 2.0 storage and backup solution for desktop and notebook computers.
It sports a dual interface and 3.5-inch, 7,200 RPM SATA hard drive. The Aegis Desktop comes in storage capacities up to 1.5TB. With an eSATA connection it enables consumers to access their external files at the same speed as their internal drive, up to 3GB per second.
The Aegis Desktop has an aluminum enclosure and fan-cooled design. Hideaway feet can be rotated into position when the drive is used in its vertical configuration and swivel away when not in use. The design is also stackable, allowing users to add more storage without taking up more desk space.
In addition, the Aegis Desktop comes with Apricorn’s Data Protection Software Suite, offering backup, cloning, hard drive disaster recovery and file synchronization for Mac and PC systems. Pricing is US$119 for a 500GB model, $169 for a 1TB system and $229 for a 1.5 version.
