Apple software updates for Aug. 20

imageYou Software has released You Control 1.7, an update of the utility for creating custom menus on the Mac. The upgrade introduces improvements for better support of iCal on Leopard, as well as a number of enhancements and fixes for other modules in You Control.

Corallo Software has updated VirtualKeyboard—an on-screen keyboard that offers point-and-click typing using pointing devices such as a head pointer, mouse, trackball, etc.—to version 3.5. The upgrade adds support for languages with non-Roman alphabets, including Cyrillic and Eastern European languages; automatic layout switching; compatibility with Leopard spaces; a new Zoom button; new options, GUI improvements and bug fixes, and more.

Callas Software has released a maintenance update of pdfToolbox, its preflight tool.

Ranchero Software has updated NetNewsWire, a Mac RSS client, to version 3.1.7b4. It fixes several bugs.

Hamrick Software has released Vuescan 8.4.82, a new version of the VueScan software for Mac OS X that’s designed to let users produce better digital images from color snapshots, negatives, slides and documents. The upgrade adds support for the Canon 5600F and the Epson WorkForce 500/600.

Limit Point Software has updated AddMovie, a tool for combining multiple movies or images into a single movie and batch exporting movies to any format supported by QuickTime, to version 1.5.5. Progress messages are now displayed at the bottom of the file list window during movie exporting.

webEdition Software has released MAMP 1.7.2, an update of the free, open source tool enabling Mac OS X users to install the Apache server, MySQL and PHP. It’s a maintenance update that fixes some bugs.

The Opera web browser has been updated to version 9.5.2. The upgrade adds: several improvements to the icons and skin; a bookmark path to autocompleted bookmarks in the address bar to better distinguish them from visited pages; and a Help button to “Engine Init() Failed” error message on start-up to inform users about a problem.

Imagine Products has released ShotPut P2, an update of its ShotPut software. Following the launch of RED and XDCamHD editions, the upgrade is geared towards Panasonic’s P2 storage cards, from which it offloads video faster than would be possible through Finder. This is helped by multithreading, which allows up to three simultaneous copies, according to the folks at Imagine Products.
