Apple should offer free MobileMe for small businesses

Apple may not have a burning desire to enter the business market with their raging success in the consumer, education and creative pro spaces. But I think it would be beneficial if the company would offer a free MobileMe account for small business. (MobileMe is Apple’s US$99-per-year suite of Internet apps).

In my opinion, Apple is making a huge mistake by not putting more effort into MobileMe. There are a world of services out there, and MobileMe could give customers more of a tie-in to Apple hardware and software—and more of an incentive to keep buying Apple products.

If Apple is concerned about bandwidth/cost issues, perhaps they work with the current providers of some free services like Google and Flickr and hand off some of the services. (Thanks for my Macsimum compadre J. Scott Anderson’s help with today’s editorial.)
