imageWe knew those cute li’l iPod nanos were hot but we had no idea. Apple Japan has reportedly been ordered by the Japanese ministry of trade to investigate the cause of an iPod nano sparking while charging, according to BetaNews. One of the nanos apparently shot out sparks while being recharged by its owner in Japan.

A Japanese Government official was quoted as saying that the incident, which involved one of the older iPod Nanos, took place in January in Kanagawa Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo. The owner was not hurt, the official said.

About 420,000 units of the first-generation device, model MA099J/A, were sold in Japan between September 2005 and September 2006. This latest incident reportedly happened in January outside Tokyo but Apple informed the trade ministry only in March, adds BetaNews.
