imageApple has been granted a patent for the ornamental design for a speaker unit (evidently the iPod HiFi) by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. It involves a docking station and more.

According to Apple, the speaker unit may include a docking station that is integrated therewith. The docking station allows a handheld music player to be docked into the speaker unit. The speaker unit can therefore be used to output music being played on the docked handheld music player. In the illustrated embodiment, the docking station is shown in broken lines on top of the portable music player.

The inventors are Bartley K. Andre, Daniel J. Coster, Daniele De Iuliis, Richard P. Howarth, Steve Jobs, Jonathan P. Ive, Duncan Robert Kerr, Shin Nishibori, Matthew Dean Rohrbach, Douglas B. Satzger, Calvin Q. Seid, Christopher J. Stringer, Eugene Antony Whang and Rico Zorkendorfer. The graphic below is a front perspective view of a speaker unit showing our new design.
