imageApple has moved closer to building a second campus in Cupertino, California, after waiting eight months for city planners to rezone its 7.78-acre property on Pruneridge Avenue to allow office use, reports the L.A. Daily News.

The planning commission has unanimously voted on Monday to rezone the high-tech company’s property on Pruneridge to planned development industrial and residential, clearing the first hurdle for the construction of a new campus there. The site, which is south of the Hewlett-Packard campus, houses two office buildings currently occupied by Apple employees.

Apple representative Michael Foulkes told the Daily News that Apple doesn’t not have plans for a campus at that site, but the rezoning is the first step toward any planning. The property is part of nine separate properties that Apple purchased at the Pruneridge site for an approximately 50-acre campus.
