SightSpeed, which specializes in video calling services for consumers and small businesses, will participate at the Intel Developer Forum 2005 in San Francisco. SightSpeed is the service that turns your Mac or PC into a voice and video phone.
Interestingly, SightSpeed leverages Intel’s processing power, while Macs are moving to Intel processors. SightSpeed recently announced version 4.0, which offers integration with Microsoft Outlook, support for 10 languages, enhanced audio sound, and support for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), the emerging standard for IP-based communications sessions. The SightSpeed Video Messenger 2.0 offers personalized Web-based connection directory and integrated text chat functionality. It requires Mac OS X 10.3 (“Panther”) and at least a Mac running at 450MHz. SightSpeed works with Apple’s iSight camera, but the company recommends Logitech’s QuickCam Pro instead.
Video Messenger supports users on a wide range of connections, including 802.11 wireless. The caller picture-in-picture format insets the caller’s camera into the main video picture, providing a sleeker interface than previous versions of the product. The contact list tools include a listing of all SightSpeed users recently connected with, recently missed calls, automatic invitations to friends and colleagues not found in the directory, and automatic notification and addition to the contact list when a new referral signs up for SightSpeed. A free limited-use trial membership and demo version of the product can be found online.
