4D, Inc. has released 4th Dimension 2004.3, an update of the design that includes several enhancements, such as the integrated mirroring system, debug logging capabilities and numerous bug fixes.
Data mirroring provides a backup system for data redundancy and recovery. Administrators can utilize a second computer that mirrors the data on the operational database, which is on the main computer. The mirror periodically updates itself to keep pace with the operational database. The new and more flexible system provides developers more programmatic control to fully automate database maintenance, according to Brendan Coveney, president and CEO of 4D, Inc.
4D 2004.3 also includes a Debug Log Recording, which provides developers a new level of testing and debugging. Developers can retrieve detailed information, such as execution time and memory, used when running 4D commands, form events, and methods.
4D 2004 users can download a free update from the 4D, Inc. web site.
